This site is dedicated to the glory of God's wonderful creation; both man and our environment that we so often take for granted.
Perhaps we will cross roads here only once, may my art inspire you and bring you new hope.

Art represented in this gallery are original art pieces. Each work is unique - no prints are made.
All my work is personally signed.

All  images were scanned at approx 71 dpi, so they should be seen merely as samples and won't reflect the
true quality of the actual art or photographs.

Whoof...

Hi to all, and  thank you for visiting my online gallery.

My art is a celebration of a God given talent, and I hope a catalyst to inspire all that visit this site
to a more spiritual attitude in life...and provocative enough to make you think.

Africa has been at war for over 3 centuries. War affects all people, from children to soldiers "called to duty"  -
everyone becomes a victim in some form or another. No-one of my generation is truly free from these chains, we've simply gone through so much
and true freedom comes at a cost. May we never forget...

Born in 1964 in Cape Town, I am a Capetonian at heart, I simply love living here. Our mountains tower into the sky like sandstone giants that form a
rock solid backdrop behind  the green vineyards raking up against the lower foothills.
The ocean; a stage over which God paints a new canvas at dawn and sunset.  I love it!

My art studio is based in my home in the Helderberg basin which is part of the Stellenbosch Winelands region - Although I spent my early childhood growing
up in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town, this has been my home town since 1970.

I simply love the relaxed beach culture of the Western Cape
I found a similar crowd of people on the East coast of Australia where we lived in 2003. No worries mate...

Formal art training? Private art schools and studied fine arts at the Art School in Stellenbosch.

Some of my talent I probably owe to my genes... I am grandson of South African artist and academic
  Willem De Sanderes Hendrikz 1910 - 1959

How do I define my paintings and photos? Well I'm no art critic but I  guess my work should reside under contemporary art.
I try to keep it modern in style and design. And as an artists I want to speak out about current events
or comment on events that have an influence on everybody's daily lives. There is so much to say about Southern
Africa and what it has been through and what we are challenged with as a united country today.

I have great admiration for anybody who's life has affected the world, especially artists and philosophers.
I always admired a really strong adherence to a single purpose.
By enduring and believing that one's life has a unique purpose;  individuals can make a difference...

Places I draw inspiration from:

Western Cape and the Cape Garden Route of South Africa

Whitsunday Islands - Australia:
A spectacular place splashing the most stunning shades of white, turquoise and blue.

Central New South Wales, Australia & New Zeeland
A beach culture similar to ours.

Bavaria Germany - These people know how to celebrate life

Austria & Switzerland - The Alps - A place that humbles all of humanity

People that inspire me:

Edmund Burke - Statesman, Critic and Philosopher

Chris De Burgh - singer songwriter

Ken Duncan - Australian landscape photographer

In viewing my art I ask that you keep an open mind here. Interpretation of art, as with wine and beauty,
lies in the eye of the beholder.  Some of my art includes nudes, so without going into a long debate, the following:

The human body provides a visual embodiment of ideas and views about the most basic human concern, love,
whether earthly or sacred.  Throughout the history of Art, the nude has been used to represent all that is glorious as well as those
traits that make humans vulnerable, spiritually as well as physically.

Those that believe nudes have no place in art, condemn great artists like Michelangelo, Titian,
Rembrandt,
Monet, and Picasso. Remove nude art and you destroy a living language of visual expression.

First understand the difference between nudity, sex and pornography.

Nudity is nothing more than a human figure without clothing, there is no overt intention of sexual arousal.

Nudity in my art, is used to elicit an admiration on the part of the viewer for the work of our Creator.

Some people will always mislabel nude art, prudishness sees the body as sinful in and of itself.
